Objective - To improve the livelihood of smallholder farmers by introducing the semi-intensive, environmentally friendly and economically viable backyard poultry farming
Project implementing areas: Rambewa (Anuradhapura Districts)
Project Period: 3 years
Target beneficiaries: 500 women farmers
Total project cost: Rs. 77.75 million
Investment per beneficiary: Rs. 155,500
Project activities and benefits
• Arrange affordable credit facility (Rs. 40,000) at 6.5% interest rate and a grant facility, worth of Rs. 84,580 and make the farmers bankable
• Construction of poultry sheds (10’x12’) and provision of one month old quality chicks
• Provide feed and mineral including feeders and waterers
• Construction of sales and egg packing center including equipment to promote market access
• Provide technical training, exposure visits and extension service support
• Establishing societies and farmer organization strengthening
• Train the beneficiaries on basic financial literacy and household budget management
• Train the farmers on nutrition, solid waste management and environment conservation
Women empowerment
Promote unemployed women to start backyard poultry farming by providing affordable credit facility and technical knowhow
Youth empowerment – Provision of startup funds for operating o Mini hatchery
o Small scale feed mills
